Overview
Pulmonary infections are a serious and often life-threatening complication of solid organ transplantation. These infections run the gamut from viral, including community acquired and herpesvirus infections, to bacterial infections including antibiotic resistant strains, fungal infections due to Aspergillus sp. and endemic fungi, as well as other less common causes. Radiographic presentation and the utility of invasive procedures such as bronchoalveolar lavage will be discussed, as well as strategies for prophylaxis and treatment.
