I am Head of the Nephrology & Transplantation Laboratory at Erasmus Medical Center, University Hospital Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The position involves the supervision of doctorate research related to the role of cytokines, T cells and B cells, and immunosuppressive drugs in clinical organ transplantation. The primary objective of my research is to develop and exploit new technologies for the diagnosis of transplant rejection using blood and urinary biomarkers. I am a member of TTS, ESOT, ISHLT, and the Dutch Transplant Society.

About Stephanie Lariviére
Stéphanie has a background in Biotechnology and Applied Arts. In 2017, she joined the Centre de recherche du Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CRCHUM) as a research coordinator in kidney transplantation. In 2019, she joined the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program (CDTRP) as the Communications and Data Manager. In this role, Stéphanie manages the CDTRP’s website, the various social media platforms, and all the visual and technical aspects of the virtual and in-person conferences. She is the creative mind of CDTRP and a fervent behind the scene worker. Stéphanie is based out in Montréal, where she lives with her cat. She is passionate about culture (music, books, movies) and is a fancy natural wine and craft beer drinker.

About Hector Madariaga
Hector M. Madariaga, MD is a transplant nephrologist at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Madariaga completed his nephrology fellowship at Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse, NY followed by a transplant fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Madariaga’s clinical interests include racial and ethnic disparities in kidney transplantation and access to care, as well as medically complicated transplant candidates and recipients and simultaneous liver kidney transplant recipients. He also has an interest in social media and medical education and serves on the Executive Committee of NephJC (Nephrology Journal Club) a twitter-based, twice-a-month journal club and as a faculty member for the Nephrology Social Media Collective (NSMC) internship. Dr. Madariaga is also a social media editor for the Kidney Medicine Journal.

My name is Leonie van Leeuwen and I am a basic scientist and Post-Doctoral researcher, affiliated with the University of Groningen in The Netherlands and the University of Oxford in The United Kingdom.  I have a background in Biomedical Sciences and Medical Pharmaceutical Drug Innovation. My research focus is on renal fibrosis, targeted drug delivery using ex-vivo machine perfusion, and renal protein degradation during transplantation. My aim is to help improve organ preservation, perfusion, and repair.

Marcel van den Brink is a physician scientist and medical oncologist who performs both laboratory and clinical research related to allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) and immuno-oncology. He is the Head of the Division of Hematologic Malignancies at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and holds a joint appointment in the Immunology and Transplantation Program of the Sloan Kettering Institute. He is the Co-Director of the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy at MSKCC and Chairman of the Board of DKMS, an international nonprofit organization devoted to bone marrow donor registration. As a clinical scientist, he is involved in immunotherapeutic trials of cytokines, cell therapies, as well as strategies to manipulate the intestinal microbiome for patients with hematologic malignancies. His laboratory is devoted to the immunology of BMT and he studies immune reconstitution, pathophysiology of graft-versus-host disease, the intestinal microbiota, and chimeric antigen receptor T cells in patients and preclinical models. Both as a Division Head and a laboratory Principal Investigator, he mentors junior faculty members, hematology oncology fellows, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students.

What do TTS International Social Media Ambassadors do?
  • Work closely with our leadership and the TTS IHQ team to produce digital content (tweets, posts, blogs, vlogs, podcasts, interviews, calls to action, opinions, manuscript / article reviews and commentaries, etc.) to be posted on your own and TTS media channels. The over-arching theme is to drive engagement.
  • Promote TTS and its mission through social media channels.
  • Promote the TTS Congress and events through social media.
Requirements / Qualifications
We are looking for dynamic and passionate transplant professionals to be SMAs for the TTS. We plan to recruit numerous individuals for a period of one year, with a possibility of renewal thereafter. Each applicant would need to allocate 1-2 hours per week to advance this initiative and participate in TTS 2022 congress. Each applicant should have an active social media presence and excellent working knowledge of at least one social media platform; dedicated training/course preferable. We ask all interested applicants to provide a short description of why you would make a great social media ambassador and present a strategy to promote TTS and the upcoming congress in 500 words or less. Please mention a list of platforms currently used with social media handles and number of followers. TTS primarily posts in English however we are looking to expand our reach to better reflect the diversity within our membership.
