WOMEN IN TRANSPLANTATION
The Transplantation Society’s Women in Transplantation network is going from strength to strength. WIT web-based questionnaire has now been completed by more than 250 women from 37 countries. We have undertaken an interim analysis of the responses which has been distributed to all members of WIT and is published on the TTS website (www.tts.org.). The WIT Steering Committee will use the data from the questionnaire to carry forward the TTS Women in Transplantation initiative in an informed and effective way, allowing us to tackle the most pressing issues facing women in their careers internationally.
The lack of access to good mentors and contact with other women in the field was one of the most cited issues raised by respondents to the questionnaire. To this end, the WIT initiative has already begun helping women to make useful contacts through networking events already held at the ESOT meeting in Paris, TTS Transplantomics meeting in San Francisco, International Heart and Lung Transplantation Society in Chicago and ATC in San Diego. At each of these events we have had outstanding speakers – Nancy Ascher, Lori West, Elaine Reed and Roz Manon.
In Vancouver, WIT will be holding a number of events including a networking event on Tuesday August 17th and an early morning Symposium on Thursday August 19th where the guest speakers include Judy Liebermann from Harvard University.
