Overview

The TTS - Dr. Sanjeev Kanoria Liver Transplant Award is established by The Transplantation Society (TTS) to recognize exceptional and transformative contributions to the field of liver transplantation.

This international award honors individuals whose sustained and original work has significantly advanced liver transplantation through scientific discovery, clinical innovation, improved patient outcomes, or the expansion of ethical access to transplantation. This includes, but is not limited to, advancements in surgical techniques, immunological research, post-transplant patient care and technological innovations related to liver transplantation.

The award reflects TTS’s commitment to advancing scientific excellence, clinical progress, ethical practice, and global access in transplantation.

We are pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for this year’s TTS - Dr. Sanjeev Kanoria Liver Transplantation Award. We encourage colleagues and members of the community to nominate deserving individuals who have demonstrated excellence, leadership, and impact in their work.

Nomination Process and Guidelines

Nominations for the Dr. Sanjeev Kanoria Liver Transplant Award must be submitted by a member of The Transplantation Society (TTS) during the official nomination period.

  • A complete nomination package must be sent to nominations@tts.org and include the following:
    • Completed nomination form
    • Letter of nomination outlining the nominee’s major contributions and their impact on the field of liver transplantation
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the nominee
    • Supporting documentation highlighting key achievements, innovations, or contributions relevant to the award criteria
  • The nominator must complete the online nomination form available on the TTS website.
  • All required supporting documents must be uploaded as part of the nomination submission.
  • Nominations must be received before MAY 18, 2026 to be considered for the current award cycle.
  • Incomplete nominations or submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.
  • Self-nominations are not permitted.
  • Nominees must be TTS members in good standing at the time of nomination.
  • The number of nominations received per nominee is not a decision criteria

Award Entitlements and Recipient Expectations

The recipient of the Dr. Sanjeev Kanoria Liver Transplant Award will receive:

  • $10,000 USD honorarium
  • Award medallion
  • Complimentary registration to the TTS Congress
  • Invitation to the TTS President’s Dinner

The award recipient is expected to:

  • Attend the TTS Congress at which the award is presented
  • Receive the award and deliver an award lecture or address
Eligibility

To be eligible for nomination:

  • The nominee must be a TTS member in good standing.
  • Nominations must be submitted by a TTS member (self-nominations are not permitted).
  • The nominee must have made substantial and internationally recognized contributions to liver transplantation.

Please note:

  • Current TTS Officers serving on the Executive Committee are not eligible for nomination during their term.
  • Posthumous nominations are not permitted.
  • There are no geographic restrictions, and TTS strongly encourages nominations reflecting the global diversity of the transplantation community.
  • The nominee must not have been a past recipient of the Medawar Prize
Selection Criteria

Nominations will be evaluated based on the nominee’s impact in the field of liver transplantation based on the below 4 criteria.

  • Impact on improving transplant outcomes or advancing scientific understanding in liver transplantation
  • Contributions that have expanded ethical access to transplantation
  • Seminal discoveries, innovations, or inventions that have transformed the field
  • Engagement with The Transplantation Society

Where candidates are otherwise comparably ranked, the selection committee may apply an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) lens as a tie-breaking consideration.

Frequency of the Award

The Dr. Sanjeev Kanoria Liver Transplant Award is presented biennially at the TTS Congress.
TTS reserves the right not to confer the award in a given cycle if no nominee meets the required standard of excellence.
