Just Released - Transplantation - March Issue

This issue continues the current focus on perfusion systems to improve the use of donated organs, the combination of perfusion with gene therapies is reviewed, and utilization of virus-infected organs is studied, showing there is "HOPE". Allocation policies across many organs and patients with different risk factors are analyzed for their impact on both sides of the Atlantic. In summary, this is an issue of the times as we attempt to gain more for more people through transplantation.

T-B Collaboration in Autoimmunity, Infection, and Transplantation
We have attempted here to provide an up-to-date review of the collaboration between helper T cells and B cells in response to protein and glycoprotein antigens. This collaboration is essential as it not only protects from many pathogens but also contributes to a litany of autoimmune and immune-mediated diseases.
Outcomes of Kidney Transplantation in Patients That Underwent Bariatric Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
The impact of bariatric surgery (BS) on kidney transplantation (KT) outcomes in patients with obesity remains controversial. We systematically searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials for studies reporting outcomes of KT recipients that underwent prior BS. Common/random effects meta-analyses were performed to obtain summary ratios of the postoperative outcomes.

Trabecular Bone Score Improves Early After Successful Kidney Transplantation Irrespective of Antiresorptive Therapy and Changes in Bone Mineral Density
Trabecular bone score (TBS) is a new tool to assess trabecular bone microarchitecture based on standard dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) of lumbar spine images. TBS may be important to assess bone quality and fracture susceptibility in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). This study aimed to investigate the effect of different bone therapies on TBS in KTRs.
Canadian Kidney Transplant Professionals’ Perspectives on Precision Medicine and Molecular Matching in Kidney Allocation
Antibody-mediated rejection is an important cause of kidney transplant loss. A new strategy requiring application of precision medicine tools in transplantation considers molecular compatibility between donors and recipients and holds the promise of improved immunologic risk, preventing rejection and premature graft loss. The objective of this study was to gather Canadian transplant professionals’ perspectives on molecular compatibility in kidney transplantation.
