Identification of Donor–recipient Interactions for a Relative Appraisal of Kidney Graft Marginality: A French Multicentric Cohort-based Study
Kidney marginality criteria consider the impact of donor characteristics on graft failure risk. To evaluate graft quality according to both the donor and recipient, we identified recipient characteristics that may modify the predictive capacity of a donor marginality score.
Progressive Hyperglycemia in Tolerant Miniature Swine Recipients of Composite Islet-kidney Grafts Is not due to Islet Loss but Rather to Increased Insulin Demand With Growth
Intraportal pancreatic islet transplantation could potentially provide a cure for type 1 diabetes, but this procedure usually requires >1 infusion along with loss of function with time posttransplant. We have previously demonstrated in a major histocompatibility complex (MHC) inbred miniature swine large animal model that the construction of an “islet-kidney” (IK) by implantation of autologous donor islets under the kidney capsule several weeks before transplantation reduces the extent of islet loss. The long-term islet function in juvenile recipients, tolerant to allogeneic IKs, is evaluated in this study.

Allogeneic Liver Transplantation in Nonhuman Primates: Surgical Technique With Stable Postoperative Outcomes
Nonhuman primate models are essential in preclinical transplantation studies. Although many advances in medical and surgical therapies have been achieved in liver transplantation research using rodent models, nonhuman primate models have not been widely used because of their technical complexity. As scientific inquiries into tolerance-free and ischemia-free models of transplantation continue to progress, it is vital to establish a standard nonhuman primate model. We attempted to establish a feasible and stable nonhuman primate model for orthotopic liver transplantation using baboons.
Eligible DBD Donors Proceeding via the DCD Pathway: Incidence, Cause, and Outcomes in the United Kingdom
Eligible donation after brain death (DBD) donors may rarely proceed via the donation after circulatory death (DCD) pathway. The incidence, reasons for pathway divergence, and graft and recipient outcomes in the United Kingdom of this cohort are unknown. We aimed to establish the incidence of eligible DBD to DCD donors in the United Kingdom, the reasons for pathway divergence, organ donation and utilization rates, and the renal graft and recipient outcomes for this cohort.
